YouTube is a great video app for user generated content from individuals or even large companies, but did you know YouTube has a number of useful tricks you can enable to better tailer your YouTube experience just for you? Below we will detail a few helpful tricks to make YouTube fit you just right.

Enable Restricted Mode

If you don’t want your children to stumble upon adult content on YouTube accidentally, then you can enable YouTube’s Restricted Mode to hide potentially adult-only content.

  1. Open YouTube’s Settings
  2. Locate Restricted Mode
  3. Enable it
  4. Enjoy!

Set yourself a reminder to take a break

You might have opened YouTube to watch a quick 5 minute video, but then realize and hour went by, this happens to many of us and there is a simple trick to curb getting lost in endless videos, YouTube’s Remind me to take a break feature.

  1. Open YouTube
  2. Select your account icon
  3. Open Settings
  4. Select General
  5. Enable the Remind me to take a break toggle
  6. Set a reminder frequency
  7. Select OK
  8. Enjoy!

Set a reminder for your bedtime

This trick is useful for kids who might watch videos near their bedtime and reminds them to go to bed.

  1. Open YouTube
  2. Select your account icon
  3. Open Settings
  4. Select General
  5. Enable the Remind me when it’s bedtime toggle
  6. Set to when your phone is on bedtime more or use a custom schedule
  7. You can enable select whether or not to wait till a video you are watching at the time is over
  8. Select OK
  9. Enjoy!

Pause Watch and Search History

You might not want your current watch or search history to inform what might show up in future recommendations.

  1. Open YouTube Settings
  2. Select History & privacy
  3. Enable the Pause watch history and Pause search history toggles

Disable Autoplay next video feature

YouTube might enable the autoplay next video feature by default but that may not be helpful if you don’t want to get sucked into endless videos.

  1. Open YouTube Settings
  2. Select the Autoplay option
  3. Disable the Autoplay next video toggle
  4. Enjoy!
