Samsung announced its more refined follow-up to the Galaxy S21, the new Galaxy S22 with improved cameras as the main highlight from last year’s S21 to this year’s S22. With this new model, Samsung seeks to improve on many of the S21’s faults.

Both the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus will come in Black, White, Green and Pink Gold and are now available for pre-order with general availability on February 25th. The S22 with 128GB of storage starts at $799.99 and the S22 Plus with 128GB of Storage starts at $799.99 and the S22 Plus with 128GB of storage starts at $999.99.

New Samsung Galaxy S22 and S22+ Deliver Revolutionary Camera Experiences, Day and Night - Samsung US Newsroom

Headlining the list of improvements for the Galaxy S22 series is camera performance with the main 50-megapixel shooter getting a 23% larger sensor. Both models have a 10MP telephoto with 3x optical zoom and a 12MP Ultra-wide sensor. Samsung is touting the new model’s night-time photography prowess and says that photos should be more detailed. Samsung says it is accomplishing this with pixel-binning and “adaptive pixel technology.”

The Galaxy S22 series is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in the US but unfortunately Samsung did not equip the US version with its in-house Exynos 2200 chip like it did with international markets. Out of the box the phones will run Android 12 with Samsung’s One UI 4.1. The list of improvements make for a more refined experience over the Galaxy S21 but maybe not worth upgrading if you already have the S21.
