How to try the new Google Play Games app for Windows

Google Play Games beta is now available, but only in a few countries at launch, but fear not, we are preparing this how to guide ahead of time as availability grows outside of the first few countries.

Google Play Games is launching its first beta in Hong Kong, South Korea and Taiwan, with more countries to follow in the weeks ahead. Anyone in these regions will be able to sign up for the waitlist, but we will extend invitations on a rolling basis. Those who receive an invite and meet the minimum PC requirements will be able to participate. The official release date will vary among regions. Google will start with the beta regions of Hong Kong, South Korea, and Taiwan, and will expand to other regions later in 2022 and beyond.

Google play games is a PC app that lets you browse, download, and play select mobile games on a Windows desktop or laptop. Besides enjoying your favorite Android games on a PC, you’ll have keyboard and mouse access, seamless sync across devices, and integration with Google Play Points. Google Play Games is not yet available for Mac.

To participate in the beta, your PC must meet these minimum requirements:

  • Windows 10 (v2004)
  • Solid state drive (SSD)
  • Gaming-class GPU
  • 8 logical cores of CPU
  • 8 GB of RAM
  • 20 GB of available storage space
  • Windows admin account
  • Hardware virtualization must be turned on
  • Compatible PC device and configuration

How to get started with Google Play Games on PC

  1. First visit Google Play Games
  2. Based on availability in your region you will either see a green Get notified button or green Get started button
  3. If the green Get started button is available then select it
  4. Follow the prompts for the registration process
  5. Google is currently putting registrants on a waitlist but in time signup and launch could be much faster

What is the future of Google Play Games going forward? The Google Play Games mobile app is primarily focused on the instant games experience where you can jump right into casual games. Going forward, “Google Play Games” will refer to the PC experience where you can enjoy your favorite Android games. Google will have more announcements for the mobile app in the near future that could signal a major push into AAA PC games.
