Spotify testing new $1 per month Spotify Plus tier
Spotify is now testing an ad-supported subscription tier that only costs $0.99 per month and it’s called Spotify Plus. Spotify Plus essentially fills a gap in Spotify’s subscription offerings and combines features from the free and premium tiers.
Spotify seems to be randomly offering the sub-$1 Spotify Plus plan to users as a way to gauge interest. Spotify’s free tier doesn’t let users skip more than six tracks per hour and limits the selection and playback on tracks from varying playlists and on the free tier you can only listen shuffled tracks.

Spotify has confirmed the news with “We’re always working to enhance the Spotify experience and we routinely conduct tests to inform our decisions,” a Spotify spokesperson said. “We’re currently conducting a test of an ad-supported subscription plan with a limited number of our users.” Unfortunately, Spotify was quick to point out that there is no guarantee that the Spotify Plus tier will launch as-is with “Some tests end up paving the way for new offerings or enhancements while others may only provide learnings. We don’t have any additional information to share at this time.” We hope Spotify Plus becomes official, if you happen to get an invite, let us know either in the comments or DM us on Twitter.
