Before Spotify released the beta today, owners of new Apple Silicon Macs would simply use the existing app designed for Intel Macs. Unfortunately, that method results in less battery life as the app has to be emulated via Rosetta 2 but with today’s beta, Spotify is natively supporting Apple Silicon-powered Macs ahead of all Macs eventually running on the current M1 and future Apple Silicon Chips.
“We have been working hard backstage on this and are happy to announce that we now have a Beta version of our app available. It features many compatibility improvements and optimizations for the new Apple architecture.”
- First download the Beta app from here.
- To install the beta app just double click the .dmg file and drag it to your Applications folder, this will replace any current version you may have
- If you want the Intel version back, please download and install it from https://spotify.com/download.
Spotify’s beta should be getting regular updates ahead of a public launch, but until then you can enjoy the beta app and provide feedback to help develop of the final app.
