Dell announces UltraSharp 4K webcam with AI-powered auto-framing, Windows Hello and more

Dell has released a new high-end UltraSharp webcam similar in design to Apple’s iconic iSight webcam and aimed squarely at Logitech’s popular flagship Brio webcam.

Dell’s UklraSharp webcam is powered by USB-C and features a Sony Starvis CMOS 8.3-Megapixel sensor that is capable of recording or stream in 4K at 24 or 30 FPS and in 720P or 1080P at 24, 30 or 60 FPS. The FOV (field of view) is adjustable between 65, 78 and 90 degrees. The webcam features auto-light correction, 5x digital zoom and autofocus.

Setup is easy because the webcam works without drivers on Windows 10, Windows 11 or macOS. If you want to utilize the cameras best features however, you will need to install Dell’s Peripheral Manager program. One of the standout software-driven features is the AI auto-framing mode that lets the video feed follow you without the camera needing to physically move similar to how the new iPad Pro works.

Dell’s UltraSharp webcam also features an infrared sensor used for Windows Hello facial recognition much similar in function to Apple’s Face ID and features a proximity sensor that when paired with Dell PCs enables Express Sign-In or Sign-out depending on if you are in front of your PC or not. This is handy as most people do not lock their PCs and that leaves your company’s or your personal data exposed and vulnerable.

The webcam magnetically connects to the included standard monitor mount and a tripod mount and also uses magnets for the lens cap. Perhaps the most important feature is the one it does not have – a microphone. Dell understands the market for high-end webcams and professional streamers and video podcasters would ultimately just utilize a high-end microphone anyway.
