Windows Subsystem for Linux is getting GUI Apps and GPU Support

Published

on

As part of the Microsoft Build 2020 news today, Microsoft announced a number of improvements for Windows Subsystem for Linux.

Microsoft is adding support for GPU hardware acceleration and Linux GUI app support. This is coming as part WSL (Windows Subsystem for Linux) version 2 and it will enable Linux GUI Apps to run right alongside Windows apps.

GPU hardware acceleration will begin to appear in the next few months for Windows 10 Insiders in the Fast Ring. Microsoft will share more information for Linux GUI app support later on this year.

These two announcements are squarely aimed at easing developers work flow and makes Windows 10 the go-to dev box. We recently reported that Microsoft added support for File Explorer access in WSL.
