Microsoft does what we all expected and shift its Build 2020 event to ‘Online Only’. This news comes only days after the World Health Organization said what we are fear was coming, the Coronavirus is now a pandemic. This will undoubtedly have long last effects of our society going forward.

Right now it is effecting Work in that people are working from home whenever possible, Schools are closing all around the country and large gatherings are being cancelled. One of those large gatherings of note is Microsoft’s annual Build conference.

In a statement to The Verge Microsoft cites the recommendations of Washington State which banned all public events where there would be over 250 people in attendance.

The safety of our community is a top priority. In light of the health safety recommendations for Washington State, we will deliver our annual Microsoft Build event for developers as a digital event, in lieu of an in-person event. We look forward to bringing together our ecosystem of developers in this new virtual format to learn, connect and code together. Stay tuned for more details to come.

We don’t imagine that this will be the first time this kind of format will be adopted this year or for years to follow.
